Oakworth Methodist Church: Flower Festival
The Flower Festival at Oakworth Methodist Church last weekend was a joy to behold. The fragrance met you as you walked through the doors and it was immediately obvious that a lot of thought, skill and hard work had gone into each of the 26 arrangements on display – all on the theme of “Celebrations”. And what a variety there was – from the Playgroup’s Daisy Chain to the Morris Men’s Bowler Hat to the Scouts’ Camping Scene to the 50th Birthday “cake” of flowers through a whole range more to the huge Golden Anniversary arrangement at the front. Most of the arrangements were put together by church members and groups who use the church – and that is what made it so special. The Cubs “Jungle Book” display was full of furry jungle animals and was very popular with the younger visitors; the Oakworth Ruggers included a host of colourful rugs and wall hangings in their display; the Beavers included a stream and Beaver Dam; 100 years of Guiding was depicted in wool; the Luncheon Club included sausages, carrots and potatoes! There were arrangements celebrating Graduation, the Little things in Life, Methodism, Baptism, Wedding, the World Cup and many more. It all provided a fitting climax to the Golden Jubilee Year at the church and the many visitors showed their appreciation by donating to the Jubilee Fund which reached £1500 by the end of the event. A big thank you to all who put so much into the event to bring pleasure to all who came to it.
