Guides
2nd Oakworth Guides meet on Wednesday. Contact Mrs J. Armstrong on 01535 642625.
Any girl aged 10 or over can be a Guide so long as she is willing to understand and make her Promise:-
I Promise that I will do my best to
Love my God
To serve the Queen and my country
To help other people and
To keep the Guide Law.
Guides have a good time, taking part in indoor and outdoor activities - they govern their own decisions,
working in small groups, learning how to be part of a team and responsibility towards themselves, their peers
and their Leaders.
The girls find their own level, doing their best to reach that level and then beyond it - they always have fun and
enjoy the girl only time.
The leaders are volunteers and mostly members of Girlguiding U.K.
Other activities include camping, weekends away, days out, challenges and competitions.
Girls work for Badges and Go For Its,which range from Chocolate to Science Investigator - they choose and
work through the syllabus, the latter giving a wide choice and so the girls learn the skill of following written
instructions.
Girls are given the opportunity at a later stage to challenge themselves to complete the Baden-Powell Challenge,
an involved and taxing set of challenges culminating in a Challenge Adventure Weekend.
When a girl is 14 she can continue to be a Guide but learn leadership skills also, choosing to work with a
Rainbow,Brownie or Guide unit. A Leadership certificate can be worked for as the girl reaches 18.
The highest award a girl can achieve is her Queens Guide Challenge.
The weekly meetings last for one and a half hours and cost £1-50 and uniform is worn.
