On Sunday January 5th 2020 our remembrance service will take place for the six Canadian crew members of the Wellington Bomber which crashed at Tewitt Lane. The ceremony will begin at 14:00 hrs (2:00 pm) at the site of the crash and will mark 76 years since the tragedy which occurred on January 2, 1944.
In summer 2018 it was also 25 years since the memorial stone was installed and unveiled in July 1993.
Please aim to arrive at the site for 13:45 (1:45 pm) at the latest. Directions are available on our web page here.
After the ceremony everyone will be invited to attend for refreshments in a reception kindly supported by Oakworth Community Trust at Oakworth Community Hall in the village and this will be held in the largest meeting room known as ‘Holden Hall.’
Parking is at a premium in the village and at the Grouse Inn near to the memorial. We would respectfully request that people attending the service consider the needs of the owners of the Grouse Inn by not using their private car park unless you have booked a meal with them or made a prior arrangement to park there. You will be able to park with care along the public roadside just past the Grouse Inn.
Please also consider Oakworth residents if you park near to Oakworth Community Hall. Limited parking is available around there but please do not park illegally or block anyone’s access or driveway. Thank you.
